Thai Elephant Day Festival
The Elephant is regarded as a royal animal in Thailand. Every year for the past 50 years, Surin province has been hosting the “Elephant Round Up” to pay respect and praise the beautiful animal. This festival usually takes place on the third week of November.
The Elephant Round-Up begins with an elephant parade through the streets of Surin, and the famous “elephant breakfast” where a buffet of fruits and foods are offered to the elephants. In addition to this, shows and performances take place which include elephant talent competitions, demonstration of the various techniques used to capture and train elephants, a presentation of ancient elephant warfare techniques, and a series of shows displaying the strength and skill of the animal.
